Southern Echo – 28 March 1891 - PARKHURST. - THE LATE MR. MARTIN. – The funeral of Mr. Thomas Edward Martin, an assistant warder at the prison, took place at Carisbrooke Cemetery on Sunday afternoon. The chief mourners were the deceased’s widow and four children, and his brother. There followed a long procession of officers of the prison in uniform, including Mr. Gunning, the chief warder, and several principal warders. Captain Johnson, the governor of the prison, was also present at the funeral ceremony, which was conducted by the Rev. F. Rogers, curate of St. Mary’s, Carisbrooke. A handsome artificial wreath was sent by the officers, and a floral wreath by Mrs. Edwards. Mr. Cheverton, of Newport, had charge of the funeral arrangements.
