Isle of Wight County Press - 28 April 1928 - NEWPORT - OCTOGENARIAN'S DEATH. - The death occurred on Friday week, at Victoria-road, of Mr. John Merwood, aged 85, who formerly lived at Hale-common and was in the employ of Mr. C. Allen, of Horringford for 42 years. The funeral took place at St. Paul's Church, the Vicar (the Rev. Miles Atkinson) officiating. The chief mourners were Mr. A. Merwood (son), Mrs. A. Jackson (daughter), Mr. A. Jackson (son-in-law), Mrs. A. Merwood (daughter-in-law), Mrs. A. Reed (niece), Mr. A. Reed (nephew), Messrs. G., W., and H. Merwood (brothers), Mrs. F. Taylor (sister), Mr. G. Taylor (brother-in-law), Mrs. G. Taylor (sister-in-law), and Mr. Charles Allen (Horringford), and others present were Messrs. S. and A. Jackson, Mrs. W. Jackson, Mrs. W. Newnham, Mr. and Mrs. Blow, and Mr. F. Payne. The interment was at St. Paul's Cemetery.
