IWCP - 2 September 1899 - NEWPORT - A NONAGENARIAN'S DEATH. - The death occurred on Saturday, at Lower Pyle-street, of Mrs. Martha Jackson, widow of the late Mr. John Jackson, a well-known builder of the town some 49 years ago, and who died at Staplers some years since. The deceased lady, who had reached a patriarchal age, being in her 94th year, retained her faculties to the last, being able to read without spectacles and to write letters till within the last fortnight. Deceased was a much esteemed member of the Wesleyan Church, the pastor of which (Rev. F. Kellett) officiated at the interment at Carisbrooke Cemetery on Wednesday. The mourners included deceased's two nephews, Messrs. Salter, of Cowes and Billingham, Mrs. Salter, and her niece, Mrs. Whitefield, of Southsea, and Mr. Walter Wells (executor).
