Hampshire Independent - 18 July 1868 - NEWPORT - DEATH OF AN EX-POLICEMAN. - Our obituary of this day records the death, at the age of 47, of Mr. W. H. Stubbs, who was for 17 years a member of the borough police force. He resigned that position about three months since, failing health being the cause of his retirement. Before entering the police force he was a seaman for many years, and he had been several times shipwrecked. At a recent meeting of the Town Council he was granted a weekly allowance from the police superannuation fund.
