IWCP - 17 January 1891 - NEWPORT - MR. JOHN WOODFORD. - Death has claimed this well-known inhabitant of Newport, and his funeral took place at St. Paul's, Barton, last Monday, the vicar (the Rev. W. H. Nutter) officiating. The deceased, who had reached his 78th year, was formerly a Volunteer of distinction, ranking as one of the best shots in the South of England, and on several occasions he achieved renown at Wimbledon, winning the St. George's Challenge Vase and other trophies. He was also years ago an adept as a cricketer, and his cleverness in various handicrafts was remarkable.
