Isle of Wight County Press - 27 December 1924 - NEWPORT - SUDDEN DEATH OF MRS. TRENCHARD. - We regret to record the death, which took place suddenly on Christmas-eve, of Mrs. Alice Mary Trenchard, widow of Mr. G. W. F. Trenchard, of 112 High-street, at the age of 63. The deceased, who was at business as usual early in the week, though feeling somewhat unwell with a cold, kept her bed on the morning of Wednesday and was medically attended. Nothing serious was apprehended, but at 6 p.m. it was found that she had passed peacefully away, death being due to fatty degeneration of the heart and cerebral haemorrhage. The deceased had carried on the well-known business of the tobacconist, stationer, &c., since her husband's death some 23 years ago. The late Mr. Trenchard came from Southampton and stated the business over 40 years ago. He will be remembered as having been a member of the Town Council. Mrs. Trenchard was actively associated in the work of the Women's Section of the British Legion and the Lady Adela Cochrane Lodge of Odd-fellows from the commencement. She leaves a son and daughter, for whom much sympathy is felt.
