Isle of Wight County Press - 6 June 1903 - NEWPORT - DEATH OF MR. J. GOATER. - The death occurred on Whit-Monday, after a painful illness, of Mr. Joseph Goater, of the Bugle yard and stables. The deceased, who was 67 years of age, was for a quarter of a century the trusty coachman of the late Mr. A. Harbottle Estcourt, on whose death he took charge of the Bugle yard. He was well known and highly esteemed in the town and Island. The funeral took place yesterday at Newport Cemetery, the first part of the service being at the Parish-church.
